Membership Guidelines
Once you’ve auditioned and become a member of The Masterwork Chorus, you’ve joined a family that shares fellowship and common musical goals. You can look forward to an exciting and fulfilling musical experience. However, as with all organizations, participating in its joys brings with it certain responsibilities. The Masterwork Chorus Member Handbook describes all aspects of membership in detail. Please read it carefully. Contact Masterwork’s Membership Chair, Don MacGowan at 973.479.4020 or membership@masterwork.org with any questions you may have.

Member Handbook Highlights
- Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm at the Chatham United Methodist Church, 460 Main St, Chatham, NJ. During concert weeks, dress and other rehearsals are scheduled according to orchestra and hall availability. In addition, two all-day (10:00 am to 4:00 pm) rehearsals are typically scheduled one Saturday during the fall and one during the spring.
- Members who miss too many rehearsals as defined in the Member Handbook must demonstrate knowledge of the music and its meaning to the music director before being allowed to perform.
- Members sign a contract at the beginning of each year agreeing to learn notes/music independently so that rehearsal time itself can be devoted to ensemble singing and interpretation of the music.
- Membership dues for the season (September through May/June) are $280 and are payable in full by the last rehearsal in September. Other arrangements may be made with the Membership Chair in cases of financial hardship.
- Each Member is expected to sell a minimum of two tickets to each non-Messiah concert. Any purchased tickets that a singer cannot use may be donated to Masterwork’s community outreach program, making them available to students and seniors at no charge.
- Members are responsible for purchasing their own concert attire as described in the Handbook. No member may perform unless the appropriate attire is worn.
